Between the large Jean Ferrat media library in Aubenas and the small village libraries, there's always a quiet corner to settle down with a good book. Whether you're more into crime fiction, comics, or children's books, you'll find something to fuel your imagination. These places exude the scent of paper, calm, and stories to share.
The Jean Ferrat intercommunal media library
With its large bay windows, cozy nooks, and thousands of books, the Jean Ferrat Media Library in Aubenas is much more than just a place to read: it's a cultural haven, a refuge for the curious, a cozy spot for hot or rainy days. Novels, comics, children's books, films, music… there's something for every mood, every age, every taste. Want to work in peace and quiet? Two beautiful rooms await you. Need to connect to the internet? Wi-Fi is available. Interested in attending a workshop, an exhibition, or a storytelling session? Check the program ; it's often enticing. They've even thought of visually impaired readers, with books in Braille or large print. In short, a true house of stories. (Closed from June 2nd to August 25th, 2025 for renovations… but only so we can reopen even better.)

Two villages where poetry has a strong presence
In Antraigues-sur-Volane and Vinezac , words have found refuge. Both designated " Villages of Poetry ," they make the stones resonate with the rhythm of verses, quotations, and literary allusions. Here, reading is whispered during strolls, displayed on facades, and shared in a small square or along a path. The heritage inspires, and artists leave their mark as others sow flowers. And perhaps this is what reading in the countryside is all about: breathing in texts as much as the landscapes?
