Walking with children is an art in itself. A subtle art that involves moving forward without seeming to, transforming every pebble into a treasure, every butterfly into a miracle, and every climb into an adventure (or the promise of a snack). Here, we have plenty to choose from: short, pretty, not-too-steep paths, and plenty of stories to tell. Here's our selection of walks tested and approved by little legs... and big smiles.
01
Le sentier paysager
A true coastal path of southern Ardèche; this family route equipped with interpretive panels on the theme of landscapes effortlessly offers wide panoramas of the Ardèche relief.
02
Le moulin de Raoul
A short, bucolic loop effortlessly explores the Mazel Valley from the village of St-Joseph-des-Bancs and leads to Raoul's Mill. Stone hamlets with evocative names line the valley floor: Le Pont, Le Serre, and finally Le Mazel.
03
La croix de Mousson
A very pleasant panoramic walk on fine winter days, culminating in the summit of the Croix de Mousson. This heritage site, dear to the Vesseaudencs, is equipped with an orientation table at the foot of the immense chestnut cross.
04
Le Rocher des Combes
In the shade of the Bois Vert communal forest, wide trails take you from the village of Vals-les-Bains, located at the bottom of the valley, to the Rocher des Combes viewpoint, offering sumptuous panoramas of the Cévennes, the Coiron and the lower Ardèche.
05
Le Serre de Vinobre
Not very high but with steep marl slopes, the Serre de Vinobre offers, at the cost of a little effort, one of the widest panoramas of the Aubenas Basin. A sunny route to avoid in case of extreme heat!
06
Entre Oize et Boulogne
Clearing in progress (June 2024). A hike accessible to all with magnificent views of the Château de Boulogne and the Oize Valley.
07
Balade dans les pins
A family-friendly itinerary through the gentle sandstone hills of the Cévennes foothills, covered in maritime pines. The sandstone rock sets the tone for the landscape, adorning the hamlets and exposing astonishing erosive features along the way.
08
Montagne d’Outre
Fairly easy loop linking the village and hamlets of Mercuer to the outskirts of Aubenas, via the Roman road and through the pine forest.
09
Le Tinal et Chastrenas
A family-friendly loop exploring the gentle limestone hills with a Mediterranean feel. At the foot of the Cévennes mountains, covered in maritime pines, olive and vine cultivation strongly marks the landscape.
10
Le val de Bise
Easy loop leading to the discovery of an isolated valley in the high Ardèche Cévennes, from the river to the ridge.
11
Aubenas au fil de l’eau
A semi-urban loop, mostly shaded in the afternoon, exploring the Albenassien heritage from the historic town to the former industrial district of Pont d'Aubenas. The theme of water is the common thread of this hike.
