The town of Vals-les-Bains is a spa resort specializing in the treatment of diabetes, liver, stomach and intestinal problems and obesity problems. In recent years, you can also come here for well-being and fitness. The town, in addition to these 145 different mineral water sources, is also crossed by the Voltour, the Volane, and is bordered by the Ardèche and the Besorgues, which makes it a city of water in every sense of the term. .
Vals was also an industrial city with its spinning mills and its mineral water bottling company.
The waters of Vals were discovered in 1602 by a fisherman, named Pierre Brun, who, thanks to the absorption of water from a new source, after a flood, found himself cured of stone disease. It was then the turn of Claude Expilly (adviser to the parliament of Grenoble), to be cured of this disease. He lived a long time, and attributed his longevity to the waters of Vals.
