Route details
Description
You are riding uphill on an old tramway line that once connected Les Vans to Le Pouzin and crossed L'Escrinet through a tunnel. The tramway only operated from 1910 to 1914, a victim of the poor design of the track and its excessively winding nature. The ascent is, in fact, gradual and takes place in the shade of black pines. The descent, very smooth, takes the "old road" that runs alongside a marl valley planted with vines and bordered by a few "badlands", these deeply gullied embankments devoid of vegetation, characteristic of the landscapes of the marl mountains. Along the way, notice the base of the so-called Cayre cross (km 6), made of a reused stone that popular tradition attributes to the Gallo-Roman period.
