Autour du Moulin de Raoul
In St-Joseph-des-Bancs, in a magnificent setting, a very old stone mill, the Moulin de Raoul, still works and on each visit the miller turns it and produces flour while telling the story of mills and millers.
This is an opportunity to discover a very old mill that is still in working order and can produce flour (and oil in the past). Based on an observation of the hydraulic network, the guide explains how water mills work.
Then, he demonstrates the crushing of grains between millstones, the sifting of flour, and the production of oil with the "moulatou" and the very old press. He also provides a historical, economic, and sociological overview of the lives of millers and mills from antiquity to the present day.
Raoul's Mill can be visited year-round. Outside of summer hours, please make an appointment. The mill is open to all.
Given the health uncertainties, it is prudent to check the mill's opening by telephone.
