Balazuc : Village de caractère

Overlooking the river, the old village of Balazuc hangs its bluish stones on the side of the wall, tumbling down towards the precipice. The charm of the village lies in its cobbled streets, its steep streets, its squares lined with fig trees...
A fiery river, the Ardèche, crossing towards the south, has opened on its way, in the limestone plateau planted with scrubland and forests, a wide gap, creating impressive steep cliffs.
This "Village of Character", also "Most Beautiful Village of France", can be discovered on foot through its maze of shaded alleyways.
In order to preserve the heart of the village, parking lots are available on either side of the town center.
A maze of alleys: The charm of the village lies partly in the calades, its narrow and steep alleys, which can be discovered by chance while wandering. Looking up, you will discover beautiful vestiges of its past history: chutes, trilobed windows, wastewater drainage, pointed arch doors and vaulted passages (from the rue de la Tour Carrée to the Calade, from the Calade to the Trouée de la Fachinière).
Quartier du Pont: Also called the district of the mercadio or the egg market, in reference to the market that took place outside the walls of the village since the Middle Ages, the district of the bridge retains some facades from the XNUMXth century.
Before the construction of the bridge, a ferry allowed the crossing of the river: the right bank retains the vestige of the landing stage.
Walking tour of the old village and discovery of the built heritage.
