Le Moulinage de la Neuve

The Moulinage de la Neuve is the only mill to have preserved its looms for spinning silk thread. It operated using hydraulic power. Discover its fishing wheel, the building's architecture… and see the machines in operation during the tour.

The Moulinage de la Neuve in Marcols les Eaux is unique in Ardèche!
Indeed, this old "Silk Factory" built in 1860 by the Giraud family, renowned millers, transformed and milled silk for the Grands Soyeux of Lyon for more than a century before ceasing its activities in 1967, driven by the upheavals of fashion and international competition.

The closed doors of the silent workshop reopened in 2002, thanks to the Association Moulins et Moulinages de la Glueyre, and everything is there! The looms, the bobbins, the bucket wheel, the spindles, the single-cylinder diesel engine, even the smell, a visitor, the grandson of a miller, told us!

The history of the place is also shared by the life of its last owner, Marie Giraud, first Mayor of Ardèche whose support during the Second World War left a deep imprint on the minds of the people of Marseille and, well beyond...

A fascinating visit, a dive into the 19th century, machines in operation...
Silk will hold no more secrets for you!
