Saint-Laurent-sous-Coiron : Village de caractère

A true eagle's nest, it is the highest village in our territory. Formerly surrounded by a rampart of which some architectural elements remain, the village is dominated by the ruins of the castle. Labeled “Village of character” since 2020.
There we find the remains of a quadrangular building which could be dated to the end of the XNUMXth century, or more likely to the XNUMXth century. The construction rose on at least two levels in basalt facings.
The old village gate opens into a recess in the rampart. The jambs and arch of the south-facing gate were certainly used for pedestrians.
In addition to the architectural features and the beauty of the landscapes, the town is rich in outdoor activities: climbing (climbing school and departmental site), caving with the deepest underground network in the department, hiking and horse riding.
Villages and towns of character is an official label, issued by the Departmental Tourism Committee, with the aim of networking in its department all the municipalities presenting a remarkable architectural and landscape heritage with the aim of developing tourism.
