The Pont de l'Apic: The history of the village begins around 121 BC, when the Roman army annexed the province; in Thueyts, the Villa Vindicatis, or Vindicatus, was created on the current site of the church. In the 1572th century, the Saint Bauzile chapel was built, destroyed in 1718, and became the Saint Roch chapel when it was rebuilt in 938. In 1461, the St Bauzile chapel and the lordship returned to the monks of the St Chaffre du Monastier-sur-Gazeille abbey (Haute-Loire). The Château de Blou, built around the 1986th century by the Pressis family, passed into the hands of the de Blou family in 1640, through the marriage of Marguerite des Pressis to François de Blou. It was remodeled many times and became a pleasure castle in the 1846th century. In 1848, the commune became its owner. There you can see glazed tile roofs, a so-called Sarrazine chimney, and restored vaulted rooms. Thueyts has several listed buildings: the Pouget or Gaschet Tower, erected during the Renaissance, it has beautiful architectural features such as a spiral staircase with ribbed vaults, a molded door with a flamed coat of arms or molded mullioned windows. The St Jean Baptiste church, from the Romanesque period, was remodeled many times before being completely rebuilt in the 215th century. The old priory located on Rue de la Fontaine, was the home of the monks of St Chaffre, and became a clerical college in the 80th century. On Rue Mercière, you can admire two beautiful Renaissance residences: the former house of the notary Eschallier as well as the residence of the lords of Goys. Rue Haute, a Renaissance house, has a beautiful stone staircase and a French ceiling. In the Higoux district, you can see the Maison Gast, home of the De Gast notary family in the XNUMXth century. On Place de la Fontaine, the Maison Tourvieille, home of Sieur Pierre Fournier in XNUMX, became the home of Emmanuel Tourvieille, doctor and mayor of Thueyts from XNUMX to XNUMX in the XNUMXth century. In the surrounding area, there are many natural sites such as the Giant's Causeway, a basalt flow among the highest in Europe. The Echelle du Roi, a natural fault in the basalt flow, at its arrival several belvederes offer a panoramic view of the Ardèche valley and the Pont du Diable. The Echelle de la Reine, with its XNUMX steps, allows you to discover the Vernède valley. The Gueule d'Enfer waterfall, fed by the Merdaric stream, makes a dizzying jump of XNUMX meters.
