Here, winter doesn't bite, it caresses. It's not white with frost, but sky blue. We walk without gloves, we eat on terraces, we surprise ourselves by taking out our bikes on January 3rd. And while the Alps are covered in snow over there, we contemplate them from here. Quiet, in the sun, with the light in our eyes and the trails all to ourselves. Far from the din, winter becomes a discreet luxury. A sweet, simple, luminous moment. Like a parenthesis to be savored slowly.

A winter with a southern climate
Here, winter has a different feel. No bitter cold all day long: the climate remains mild, almost Mediterranean . The days are often sunny, with a clear blue sky that makes you want to go outside, even in the middle of January. You can stroll around, sit on a terrace at midday, and soak up the sunlight in the heart of winter.
And while in many regions the bike is put away during the winter, here it remains in service for the beautiful winter days.
It is a peaceful, bright season, far from the grayness.
Hiking facing the snow-capped Alps
One of the pleasures of winter here is hiking under a gentle sun… with the snow-capped Alps as a backdrop . From the heights of the Aubenas-Vals region, some hikes offer exceptional panoramas. From the heights of Mézilhac or Escrinet, if the weather is clear, you can admire the spectacular peaks of the Hautes-Alpes (Écrins massif), as well as the Vercors, Beldone, and Chartreuse massifs… And if you turn your head slightly to your left, you can see Mont Blanc.
The air is pure, the paths are peaceful, and the landscapes reveal a more raw, quiet beauty. It's an opportunity to explore in a different way, far from the beaten track, in an almost contemplative atmosphere.

Cultural life continues
Even in winter, culture does not sleep. In Aubenas, the castle (which is a renowned Contemporary Art center) still dominates the city and hosts exhibitions, events, workshops… in a more intimate atmosphere than in the middle of summer. A truly lively place, even out of season.
À Vals-les-Bains, the Italian theater, a jewel of local heritage, continues to bring the region to life with a varied program: concerts, plays, shows for young audiences... There is always an evening not to be missed.
Far from the tourist hustle and bustle, winter here becomes a time of quiet culture, on a human scale.
