Nature is everywhere, and it is incredibly rich. The flora and fauna have been preserved because we are here in landlocked valleys and mountains, and because tourism in this part of the Ardèche is reasoned and responsible.

Here, nature thrives. Very little pollution, vast areas where human activity is minimal or has little impact, and a long-standing and strong connection between the inhabitants and nature: these are undoubtedly the reasons for such richness in the ecosystem of the Secret Ardèche. Deep forests, fragrant scrubland, rugged mountains, steep valleys, pure and fresh water … each environment shelters precious flora and fauna. One encounters remarkable bird species, deer, beavers, otters, amphibians, and rare insects… Wild orchids bloom in spring, and centuries-old chestnut trees provide sustenance in autumn. This natural heritage is far from insignificant: it is protected, respected, and valued.

Wild rivers, preserved valleys

The river here is much more than just scenery. It's a living thread that has shaped the landscapes and activities since time immemorial. The Volane , the Ardèche , the Besorgues , the Mas , the Sandron , the Bise … Each has its own unique character. They tumble down from the high plateaus and meander through steep-sided valleys, bordered by rocks, forests, and narrow paths. Some are cool and calm, perfect for swimming. Others, more spirited, beckon adventure. They all share one thing in common: they are magnificent and flow through an environment that has remained wild , untouched by massive urbanization or unnecessary concrete. Just nature, and you.

Wild

A territory concerned about ecological issues

You only need to talk to the older generation to realize that here, we've always had a deep respect for nature and its resources. No doubt because abundance and unrestrained consumption have never been part of the Ardèche way of life. Water management, the preservation of natural environments, support for small-scale farming, the promotion of local supply chains… all of this is part of everyday life. Tourism is also approached differently: no overcrowding, no unnecessary development, an unconditional love for cycling, and events on a human scale . Sustainable development isn't an option; it's a given. So that the region remains beautiful, free, and vibrant for years to come.

Finding calm is so easy

Think everything is crowded and noisy in the summer? Well , not here. Okay, if you go for a stroll through the Aubenas market on Saturday morning, you certainly won't be alone in the castle square; that's precisely what makes it so pleasant. But you only need to venture a little further from the town or villages to easily find wild places and absolute peace and quiet. Even in July and August, you can hike alone on a trail, find a quiet spot by the river, get lost on a forgotten little road, or settle down in a hamlet far from everything. The area is vast, hilly, and full of hidden nooks and crannies. You can enjoy these places in complete serenity . To rest, refocus, observe, listen, or simply do nothing. Peace and quiet here isn't a luxury; it's practically the norm.
