If the "nickname" for the Pays d'Aubenas-Vals is "the Secret Ardèche," it's because this part of the Ardèche has managed to avoid over-tourism and overdevelopment . Biodiversity has remained exceptional, from the banks of Pont d'Aubenas to the Col de l'Escrinet, from the garrigue hills of Vinezac to the mountains of Mézilhac.

Difficult to access and protected by the landscape, these valleys offer a genuine escape. You walk along the water's edge, sometimes on slippery stones, hearing the echo of waterfalls and the rustling of leaves. Here, it's perfectly normal to spend two hours hiking without seeing a soul. Rugged mountains
This landscape, made up of steep slopes, isolated volcanic plateaus, and high peaks , has made human settlement difficult. As a result, these mountains have retained a true natural integrity. Some hikes will take you to ridges or summits with 360° views, others through magnificent forests of chestnut or beech trees (called "fayards" here). For it to last, everyone must do their part: limit their impact, respect the environment, avoid relying solely on cars, and buy local.
