A rich industrial history and exceptional glassmaking expertise
Founded in 1835 , Labégude established itself as a prosperous glassmaking town . In the 1950s and 1960s, its industrial activity experienced significant growth, and even today, the local glassworks shines on the international stage: it is the world's number 1 in the OI group in terms of quality.
But Labégude also has a longer history. Its name comes from "Bégude ," which once referred to a resting place where carters watered their horses. The oldest house in the village dates back to 984 and served as a hunting lodge for the Barons of Ornano, lords of Vogüé and Aubenas.
