Perched on a verdant balcony, Saint-Joseph-des-Bancs looks out at the mountain, the water at its feet, and the wind in the branches. This small Ardèche village is a blend of nature, heritage, and a gentle way of life—with that little extra touch of soul that makes you want to take your time.

A story of mills and memory
Two mills, two stories that have been going strong for centuries: the Moulin de Raoul, still in working order when the water permits, welcomes the curious by appointment for an immersion in the art of grinding chestnuts and grains the old-fashioned way. Just downstream, its discreet cousin, the Moulin de Pailhaire, shares the same heritage and the same love of tradition. It is in these buildings that the echo of a job well done still resonates, to the rhythm of the water.

Add to that a charming little church with its bell-tower, and even the remains of an ancient Roman road to take to the Champ de Mars: here, the stones have stories to tell.
Wild by nature
Surrounded by the rivers of the Sandron Valley, the town is a paradise for fishermen and dreamers alike. The small stone bridges, the babbling brooks, the secret nooks and crannies... everything invites contemplation.

It's also an ideal starting point for hikes in the rugged landscapes of the Ardèche mountains. From the Col de la Fayolle and Col de la Paille, the panoramas stretch as far as the eye can see—some days you can even glimpse Provence in the distance.
Sports, swimming and relaxation
Tennis courts, soccer courts, volleyball courts, handball courts, basketball courts... In Saint-Joseph-des-Bancs, the sports complex has nothing to envy from big cities! And in summer, it's the outdoor pool that becomes the star of the village, nestled between the sky and the mountains.

Feel like slowing down? Shaded picnic areas await you for a well-deserved snack with a view of the mountains.
Whether you come to walk, to swim, to listen to stories about water or just to get a breath of fresh air... Saint-Joseph-des-Bancs will leave you with an Ardèche memory that will stay with you (and your heart).
