Boulogne Castle, the town's star

Hard to miss: the Boulogne Castle is the village's unmissable icon. A true medieval fortress, listed as a Historic Monument, which has been looking down on us from the top of its promontory since the 12th century. At the time, it watched over the trade and strategic routes leading to Le Puy-en-Velay and the Col de l'Escrinet. Just that.
Despite the centuries, the Wars of Religion, the Revolution (and a brief stint on the National Estate market…), it still stands proudly. At least, what's left of it: magnificent ruins, an impressive dungeon, and a crazy charm that would make a Netflix series set green with envy.

It's a place full of poetry, perfect for letting your imagination wander. You can still imagine the banquets in the great hall, the suits of armor clattering on the flagstones, and the whispers of centuries past between two mossy stones.

When it comes to nature, we are also very well served. The Boulogne Valley, discreet and green, offers varied hiking trails, some very easy, others more challenging. You can explore the surrounding area on foot, whether in contemplative mode or as an experienced hiker.

And for the more daring: head to the climbing site Right next to the castle. Natural walls, breathtaking views, natural ambiance... It's the perfect place to test your arms (and calves) in a magnificent setting.
